My Favorite Albums of the 2010s
* There will be many changes in the next 8 years; this is merely the beginning of the decade. *
Tina Karol / 9 Zhizney
What a fine album, and a beautiful lady. Tinas music seems to progress - from her initial pop appeal to this current album. as I have said, Tina has great music to accompany her vocals, and this is no exception - in general the music borders on rock, but doesn't quite get past the popular sound. There is not a bad song here. She seems to be in tune. Amazon
Despina Vandi / C'est La Vie
I will admit, at first I was a bit shocked to hear guitar rock riffs instead of the usual keyboard/synthesizer sounds in the music. But in the end, the music fits into its own place, which is a rock niche my favorite artists seem to bypass. while I do miss the intricacies of her earlier music, the mixture of music styles and instruments makes this a prime album.
Chambao / Chambao
This is one of those albums where you know right away; you love it. The instrumentation, the rhythms, and the ambience of this album are a quiet cheer for life in this century. Words will not serve my description. There seems to be a basic instinct at work in these songs, it sheds its light into the darkness of humanity.
TaL / Le Droit De Rêver
This young lady is about as sweet a person as you can find in modern entertainment. The music is a fine show of life experiences, universal through any generation - with a modern touch. Yet the music goes beyond the ordinary with the string instruments and the melodies.
Tereza Kerndlová / Schody z Nebe
Tereza is an incredibly talented performer. It must have been agonizing for her to waste her abilities in mere contemporary music, when she could be making real music such as this album. There is wonderful arrangement of instruments with Terezas vocals and lyrics ; while not pop or rock music, this is what she does best: modern music. Kind of a jazz style. I still think she needs to mature just a little; if she continues on in this style Tereza will be grand. The music is already there.
Gisela / Pensando En Ti
We worried that Gisela was going to disappear from the music scene. Even finding a picture of her online was a chore to sort through things we had seen years before. So we were elated to find out she had released two albums recently; a 2010 christmas CD and this album. She is mature beyond her years, with a classic voice that is greater than most pop musicians. I find strength in her music. Amazon
Kristina Orbakaite / Pocelui Na Bis
I find great comfort in the familiar voice of Kristina. She may be predictable in style; because she always mixes elements of humor and drama into her music. and while there isn't much beyond her usual material, she manages to keep me entertained..
Vera Brezhneva / Liubov b Spacet Mir
If there is anything more anticipated in Russian music, I would like to hear it. Not many entertainers could live up to their image, as Vera clearly does on this album. The music rocks on in that distinct ViaGra style, and it does not disappoint.

Paola e Chiara / Milleluci
This is a fine collection of songs, and in my opinion this is the best Paola and Chiara music of their career. Gone are their younger days of 'trying' to be relevant or breaching the borders of modern pop music. They are just rockin..once you get past the title track. Let me explain: there is much anticipation and keep those fingers away from the forward/reverse buttons. Just push play..and let these divas entertain you. Amazon
Air / La Voyage Dans La Lune
It's so very humbling, after MY La Femme D'argent video got so much attention, to see Air do something relevant in historical terms. Their innovative, basic music has a calming effect, and the group allow you to keep a safe distance from the hype of modern music. Imaginative, beautiful arrangements of guitar, piano, drums, and some ecclectic vocals combine into a sure classic. Don't forget the video! Thumbs up. Amazon

And that rounds out my top 10. Scroll down for more favorites...

Despina Vandi / Allaxa
In my esteem Despina has the unique status (shared by Kristina O) of 'I gotta hear this' . There are no 'mega' dance-hits here, just first class entertainment.
Hooverphonic / The Night Before
We were familiar with their earlier hits Mad About You and Sometimes, and one day we just went to see what Hooverphonic was up to these days. On the first listen, we were overwhelmed with the sense of having found a true 'must-have' album.
Medina / Forever
We got lucky with this album; we just happen to be reading a blog about new music releases and this album was mentioned. Always on the 'lookout' for fresh nordic artists, we couldn't wait to hear the music. We tried our music services, but the album was so new that no one had it available to give it a listen..Eventually we found a decent price and bought it from Germany. By the time it arrived in our mailbox, we had heard the complete album a few times, a fine investment.
Mylène Farmer / Bleu Noir
Mylène is a fine performer, and this album has some great 'non-hits' that i definitely appreciate. The initial shock was finding this album had been very popular in Russia...while i do not know why, it became a 'must have' album, and after listening a few times on Spotify, we bought it. Yet we also knew that Mylène has a large following in France, and this is a great artist to have an album from in our collection.
Inna / I Am The Club Rocker
One way or another we found Innas' latest hit and it stimulated our curiosity. After a little background of her career via wikipedia, we set out to give this album a listen on Spotify. And there our interests stayed, until one day we craved to hear it again. It wasn't satisfying..enough maybe. So it was the third time we went back and listenend that we began to appreciate this simple melodic pop.
Kate Ryan / Electroshock
The first song we heard of this album was Robots - a really catchy beat. then the video, and then a few live performance videos, and we really started to like Kates' new album. Hey, this is a no-brainer when it comes to industry standard europop; Kate has been on our radar since the 2006 Eurovision contest.
Leslie / Recherge Du Bonheur
At first i was not impressed with this album; the music seemed a little too peppy for the lyrics and mood of most of these songs. I guess over the last year or more, my listening tastes have changed to a 'more personal' music preference. And nobody else seems to make music that compares to the intimacy of Leslies songs. Well, whatever it is, it doesn't seem to be the 'in' thing for french music, but who cares?
Camille Jones / Did I Say I Love You
Just a simple comment online from an acquaintance, and we had to listen to this album. After discovering a few new artists this year, and listening endlessly to their music, this was just the 'freshness' we were looking for.. my appreciation for Camilles' vocals is still growing.
Schiller / Atemlos
This is a double album, with 29 songs. It only takes 1 or two songs to become immersed in the schiller universe, where you will inevitably stay for the duration. Welcome. Here you will find a world of simple melodies and soothing music interludes. It seems there may be an american release of this album in 2012, probably a short version like Sehnsucht/Desire. But that's just my guess.
Amazon
Ace Of Base / the Golden Ratio
Never in a million years would i have guessed that AOB would change their vocalists. What a refreshing sound, to hear what 'music' Jonas and Ulf have cooked up for us here. I sincerely hope they continue to do so, ad infinitum...
